  1. The Missing Manual by Nancy Conner is a beautifully presented and well illustrated manual about Google Apps. I was most pleasantly pleased by the completeness and breadth of the book.

  2. I found myself gravitating towards the back of this book more and more, looking for help in transitioning two domains that I own to Google Apps. Now that I’ve read through those chapters, I can set up a domain for use with Google Apps in less than an hour, and most of that is the time waiting for Google to authenticate the services.

Having done that, I breezed through the remainder of the book–and that’s a nice feeling. It’s very easy to transition from Office to Google Apps, since the functionality is slimmed down and you’re likely familiar with 95% of the features already. However, I really enjoyed the collaboration features that were documented in the opening half of the book, as they are not intuitively obvious when working with the site.

(Full disclosure: I was previously employed by the publisher O’Reilly several years ago. This has not impacted my review in any way.)

  3. Of course, Google Apps are not packaged in shrink-wrap, but this title is another one of David Pogue’s Missing Manuals. It’s a title you just have to have to get the maximum use out of Google’s new online Apps. Of course, if you’re not into it yet – you don’t need the title.

But once you discover that you don’t need to pay Microsoft hundreds of dollars for something that’s free online, you’ll be happy if you take a look at this title. You’ll get the most from Apps.

  4. If you use any Google Applications this is the book for you. I liked it so much that I had to get another one and give it away as a gift. While Google applications are always changing this book gives you 90 % of what you need and it even covers information that I didn’t know. It’s well worth the price and is the only book out there that tells it all. for example, I didn’t realize that if you register a domain name with google that you can switch it over to GoDaddy.com since that’s who actually registers the domain name for them. It tells you that and how to transfer evertything properly. No more printing out of help text to find out how to do things.

  5. Nancy Conner’s GOOGLE APPS: THE MISSING MANUAL offers a free alternative to Microsoft Office, covering all of Google Apps’ downloadable files, step-by-step coverage of Gmail, Docs, and Calendar, and tips on producing in Google anything you can do with Office: spreadsheets, slideshows, and word processing. Move the files back and forth between Google Apps and Office and learn how to create a Wiki website with this outstanding guide.
